Let's revisit my post from a year ago:
So, St. Luke's has a couple of computers with net access, but I can't upload pictures until I head home. I'll probably sneak over there on Wed. So be patient. In the meantime: I really wish I could have blogged this live, but we don't have a laptop. So, I've been writing things on a couple of scraps of paper on a legal pad I had with my stuff. Normally, I've got several pads, but I cleaned out my bag before I left work. So, here's the chain of events...
Monday 8:17 PM Following check in, I've eaten some Jello and had a tiny soda out of the Maternity Ward Fridge. It finally hits me, right now. Oh my God, we're really doing this. p.s. Jodie's gown has a breast pocket, like you'll find on a men's shirt, on her back. I put my car keys in there. She was not pleased. p.p.s. Turns out the gown is on wrong. Pocket in the front.
9:20 PM Jodie is hooked up to the IV. My makeshift couch/bed is made, we're settling in for the long night of un-events. Probably. (Note: how wrong I was!)
10:45 PM Cleveland Indians advance over the Yankees. I go to sleep. Jodie waits for the Ambien to kick in.
Tuesday
3:58 AM Jodie's water broke, much to our suprise.
6:36 AM Waiting...
6:55 AM There's an awesome sunrise, orange and pink, with a sliver of moon hanging low. Plus, the epidural will come soon. (NOTE: again, how wrong I was!)
7:15 AM Epidural Starts
7:57 AM 12 hours have gone by since check in now. We're waiting on a 2nd doctor to come and put in the epidural. Weren't we done by this point last time?
Just before 9 AM... Epidural finally in, an hour and 45 minutes after the first attempt. Baby's head is already close, and they had to rush the epidural. (NOTE: turns out all the anesthetiologists downstairs got tied up. Jodie was NOT pleased after waiting forever for her Epi.)
9:53 am He's here! Jackson was nearly out by the time the Epi took effect. We waited for Jodie's OB to arrive, get dressed, and started pushing. it took no longer than 10 minutes of pushing, but it could be closer to 5. Just about 4-6 good hard pushes. I lost count. I actually saw Jackson come out. I thought it would freak me out, but I didn't. Although I did look away when he did the episiotomy.
The vitals: Jackson David Boye Born: 9:53 AM Weight: 9 pounds, 9 ounces Length: 21 1/4 inches Comments: Chubby cheeks, a lot of dark black hair. His mouth and nose look just like Riley's. I'd imagine when we compare hospital portraits between the two, they'll be nearly identical except for chubby cheeks.
12:30-1:30 While Jackson gets his blood sugar looked at, as well as a bath, Jodie and I catch a brief nap.
2-ish PM Riley visits with Grandma Betty. She's not terribly impressed. She's happy to push the doctor's rolling stool around the room and play with her new toy that Jackson got her. Not the previously blogged Rocket, but another Little Einstein's toy, a conductor's baton that plays the same three songs over and over. And there's no volume control.
3:07 PM Jackson poops for the first time. Daddy changes the diaper, the first of many. It's the black sticky poop. Gross.
HERE ENDS THE NOTES I TOOK. Since then, we've been trying to get Jackson to latch on and breastfeed, but he seems content to nap. Jodie is tired, I'm tired, Jackson is tired. It's been a long day. Right now, both of them are asleep, but I carry on... existing on a adrenaline/caffiene diet. But I'll crash soon. I'll try for pictures tomorrow. Until then... Pray for a restfull night for my family of four.
